When shopping for antique floor coverings, one of the most important skills you need to have is the ability to identify an authentic antiques from one that is merely manufactured to look like an antique (it’s not like looking for window cleaning Barry). Otherwise, you are going to run the risk of paying a lot more for a copy then it is actually worth – and being embarrassed when trying to pass it off as a genuine antique in front of people who are actually in a position to be able to tell the difference between the actual article and a fake.
If you don’t want to bring your reputation as a genuine antique shopper, then it is critical that you do a little bit of research before you go shopping for your antique rug. Know what design and time period you are going to be looking at and memorize some of the features that are prominent in that type of rug design. Also, it would not hurt to do a little bit of research on some of the common features in rugs that are manufactured to mimic those types of antique rugs so that you can spot the fakes that way, as well (and of course carpet cleaning companies in Sutton and Surrey).
